in june 2015, the husband + I made the big decision to adopt a puppy. we named her lady eleanor. she will be turning one in april, and let’s say she has a bit of energy. the winter was rough for her; she hates being cooped up inside and we live in an apartment. so every trip outdoors was preceded by bundling up like an eskimo and not-so-gracefully stomping down 4 flights of stairs in my snow boots. we’re all ready for spring. so the first sunny, over 35° day, we all took a trip to the dog park.

in eleanor’s dream world, she spends all of saturday playing at the dog park and all of sunday sleeping off her fun-hangover. which we try to oblige! we joke we’re purchasing our first home for the dog. so she has a backyard to call her own. but until then and when she’s craving more space to lose her mind (that’s what is happening below), we have amazing dog parks to visit. there are three through the city of des moines park + recreation. you buy a $20 permit that gets you into all three of the parks for the entire calendar year. it’s well worth it to us + eleanor. where else can she play a game of tag with six other dogs?

what is your dog’s favorite activity? is your city dog-friendly?

The girls both love going for a run down the road, but that is weather dependent. Bella loves going swimming or tromping around the farm. Haddie is a big fan of going to the horse barn with me and she also likes to go to the farm. Anywhere that she can chase bunnies works for her!!!

I’m sure your dogs love all the land they have to explore. I wonder what eleanor would do around horses? She’d probably be terrified. Aren’t you so excited for the weather to be nice again? boo winter. (even though our pup is OBSESSED with snow. I’m the problem ..)

They certainly do and are much happier when they can poke around outside. Eleanor is going to LOVE having a yard to romp around in!! Our girls aren’t scared of them per say, but they do give them a wide berth! I’m anxious for the weather to stay warm. We were in Chicago this weekend and it was gorgeous, but by the time we got home it was terribly windy (hazard of living on the Plains) and cloudy. And they’re talking more snow this week. Gag.
