I’m certain I had the best neighbors as a kid. like clockwork, every may 1st a candy-filled basket would be dropped at our doorstep. someone would ring the doorbell, but would be gone before we made it to the front door. it wasn’t as important to know who (even though we had a pretty good idea). it was more about the gesture + how much we loved it as kids. we looked forward to it!
whatever happened to the small, but grand gesture of may day baskets? I haven’t given or received one in decades. let’s change that ..
how to assemble may day baskets.
the husband + I are VERY new to our neighborhood. and for the first time in our adult lives, we must concerns ourselves with landscaping. (insert joke about not being able to keep a plant alive, ever). it’s also spring and flowers are blooming all over the place. I wanted to assemble a may day basket for our neighbors, who I’m certain are mostly adults. so baskets of candy were considered, but thrown out. how about a may day basket that plays on gardening? mixing both essentials + treats. (I purchased everything at our local dollar store – less than $5 for each may day basket).
what to include ..
• colorful ceramic pot
• pack of oreos (for the “dirt”)
• gummy worms (because every garden has worms, duh)
• garden gloves
• garden hand shovel
• vegetable seeds
have you ever given or received a may day basket? what do you include?
