if there is one thing I learned this summer, it’s that: moscow mules should be made with alcoholic ginger beer! I’ve been making them “wrong” this whole time. let’s just say, these are the types of lessons you learn at a family reunion, in an itty bity town in the middle of iowa, while hanging out at a campground. my aunt made a round of moscow mules using crabbie’s ginger beer. it has 4% alcohol. they were stronger cocktails, but equally (if not more) delicious. once home, I was going to duplicate them. until I realized I wasn’t sure I’d ever come across ginger beer with alcohol..
PRO: your local brewery may brew their own alcoholic ginger beer. ours does! we found “cat in a tree ginger” at firetrucker brewery in ankeny, iowa. no local brewery on the ginger bandwagon? our liquor store had crabbie’s. CON: it will make your at-home bar tab a bit more expensive. a 4-pack of our locally brewed alcohol-included ginger beer will run you about $10 (note: that’s wallet-friendly iowa prices).
even better moscow mules.
how to make an even better moscow mule:
• 1.5 oz vodka (use citrus or regular)
• .5 oz lime juice
• top with alcoholic ginger beer
