the holiday season can get so hectic. sometimes we
forget neglect to wrap gifts until seconds before they’re opened. occasionally we get our personalized yearly ornament after the tree has been taken down. if we send holiday cards, it’s a miracle. we always say we’ll go drive around to see the christmas lights, but without fail we’ll wait for a snowy night and it may never come. sometimes we plan a big holiday baking night, sometimes we just happily eat those our family makes for us. but every year, the husband + I make time for our annual gingerbread house competition. it’s a holiday staple. we purchase gingerbread house kits and two (or three) other candy selections. we sit around these tiny houses for hours, but it is one thing we look very forward to every christmas. this is our 6th annual.
I can remember back to our first year, we were in my college apartment. the husband was already living in new york, but was back to visit. we made such a mess. it took hours to clean the frosting off the table, and I found gum drops for months. I kept the houses well into the new year. (call me lazy, call it love). it was so much fun. I knew it was a tradition I wanted to start + continue. (I tend to leave out of the story, the husband was picked the winner year 1, 2, 4, 5). if you dig back into the archives, you can see our 2014 + 2013 houses. (i’ll put all six years on LLbychels’ facebook page).
