in january, the husband + I took a trip (back) to the dominican republic. we had been there just 15 months prior to say “I do“. we had planned to go back for our first anniversary, but after careful consideration decided leaving iowa in the dead of winter would be much more fun.
we called this our honeymoon, anniversary + just because trip.
so, we loaded up our suitcases with swim suits, books, and sunscreen. waved goodbye to the crisp 25° iowa air and boarded the jet plane. once we arrived at the hard rock, so many amazing memories from our wedding trip came flooding back. but this time, it was just the husband + I. we spent our days by the pool with a book + cocktail in hand, or taking naps by the beach (how calm + soothing are the sound of waves?). each night, we were treated to a romantic dinner + a walk along the beach. there is a lot to say for spending a week in such a care-free place with the one you love.
honeyversary | punta cana.
as we sat in our beach chairs (with a rum punch in hand), neither of us could believe the first year of our marriage had past. quite literally in a blink of an eye. we’re almost halfway through year two. if anything other than enjoying every single moment of your time together, I’d say to create celebrations around nothing. we had a great first anniversary (that we celebrated at home). and we skipped out on the honeymoon because we got married on a tropical island. but three months into year two of marriage, we packed up our suitcases + headed south. calling it our honeyversary. (obviously not a real thing, although it should be). we try to do out of the ordinary, fun just because celebrations as frequent as possible. luckily we’re on the same page when it comes to the definition of “fun”.
what is your favorite date or “just because” celebration? do you make the effort to “date” your significant other?
