occasionally a business will do such an amazing job creating buzz around the opening of their new store, that even one month after opening guests are willing to wait in 20 minutes lines to get their hands on the goods. that was definitely the case with the hurts donut that just opened in west des moines, IA. it’s 24/7 shop, with crazy, unheard of donut varieties.
before entering the busy store, the husband + I did exchange glances wondering what kind of low we may have hit if we’d wait in such a long line for donuts at 4:30PM on a saturday. but we’d made our way there + refused to turn back. so, we waited. while in line there is a lot to look at around the store, including the decor + the windows into the bakery, where you can watch the masterpieces being created from scratch. not to mention, we needed time to ponder how many donuts + which we’d be taking home with us. at one point I said one of each. thank goodness the husband politely reminded me “not my best idea”.

we walked out of the store with six scrumptious donuts and zero regrets for waiting in line (or the amount of calories we’d soon consume). after making our selections, we realized we clearly have a “type”. besides the old fashioned, everything fell into the category of “chocolate”. there was a s’mores, a sea salt caramel fudge, nutella, oreo cheesecake, and peanut butter cup. it should go without saying, we’ll be back! the cosmic brownie donut looks somewhat life-changing. am I right?
what sweet treat would you wait in a 20-minute line?
