it always seems that just as I’m starting to enjoy summer, it’s august. already. do I really need june + july as a warm up? it probably does not help, we have had action-packed weekends one after another since you could acceptably wear white pants memorial day.

as of recently, the husband + I have made it a point to spend any free weekend hours with our pup at the lake. we grab chairs, pack towels + a blanket, a small cooler filled with an assortment of beverages, what I lovingly refer to as the “dog’s diaper bag” (her treats, toys, leash, etc), and sunscreen. we go + come back when the dog is exhausted or the sun goes down. whichever comes first. (typically the sun).

it’s been discovered that our dog loves to swim + can for hours. she’s a particularly big fan of the sticks on the shore. if you throw them, she’ll swim out + fetch it. but you better find a new stick for the next round, you’re definitely not getting the stick back. (she hasn’t quite mastered the “bringing it back” portion).

we’re lucky to live only a few miles from saylorville lake. it’s spacious + peaceful. we can always find a little piece of the shoreline to claim as our own for a few hours. it may be my favorite carefree, on a whim summer activity. whether we have an hour or five, it’s easy to pack up + enjoy the sun lakeside.

what is your favorite summer activity?
