it is the opening day of the iowa state fair!!!
as I slept last night, images of fried food + brett eldredge danced in my head. I’m so excited! for the next ten days, the state fair will be jam-packed with happy people. the husband + I have plans to attend on saturday to get the full experience. which includes an abnormal amount of fried food on a stick, a lot of walking, craft beer + brett eldredge on the grandstand. we’ll also be headed back on tuesday, with my parents. who kindly asked if we’d attend the “rock hall three for all” concert (joan jett, cheap trick + heart). my hesitation on saying yes was met with my father’s “when do you get the chance to see three bands in the rock ‘n’ roll hall of fame?”. you win, dad.
when the state fair comes to town.
the husband + I volunteer to set up our two favorite spots at the fair – the iowa craft beer tent + top of the vine. the only thing you will find at this beer tent is iowa-brewed beer. they feature + serve breweries all across our state. you can purchase sample glasses to try a few, or just one large cup if you know your favorite. (or you’re just “going for it”). top of the vine is new to the fair as of 2015. it is on top of the hill and overlooks not only the fair, but the entire city. it has beautiful views! they only serve wines made in the great state of iowa. each day they feature two wineries. in addition, they have iowa soda (think: root beer, orange, strawberry) and a few iowa craft beers on tap. see more from past state fair trips: here, here + here.
what is your favorite part of the fair? what’s your favorite fair food?
