in the midst of this crazy thing called life, it’s important to search out the slow down. we can all get so wrapped up in the routine, in the perfection we’re striving for. so much so we pass right by the little, beautiful moments that make up life.
the husband + I have made sunday adventures a priority. they are the moments that
should could be spent doing the dishes or catching up on laundry, but instead we load up the car and head for an undetermined destination. it could be to a brewery we’ve been meaning to visit, or a pumpkin patch. it could be to a nearby lake for a picnic or a neighboring town to explore. these adventures are simply intended for the items we put on a list and never made time for. they’re not cross-country trips or jumping out of a plane. they are the things we have no valid excuse to keep putting off.
sundays are for adventures.
our latest adventure was a walk to the most unassuming, beautiful bridge in the middle of iowa. surrounded by farmland as far as your eyes could see. it is called the high trestle bridge. (bringing along the puppy, of course). as we approached, the sun was just beginning to set. we thought our timing was off. we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the views in the dark. what we found, our timing was impeccable. not only did we catch the sunset, we watched the bridge light up and the moon begin to shine. the whole sight was just gorgeous. I didn’t want to leave! despite all of the things I could’ve been doing at home, sadly they would wait for me. I needed to get out to take time for fresh air, to walk the dog, to be with my husband not having to worry about what we needed at the grocery store or what we’d eat for dinner. I needed to be in awe of my surroundings, to let the tasks + stress melt away, and to gain a new perspective. it all comes when you step out of your routine.
