while in south dakota.

to say [J] & I were camera-happy during our trip would be an understatement of the year. we went a little crazyso narrowing down the photos + stories to share has proven to be quite the process. I “intended” to show our first three stops in one post – let’s just say that’s not quite feasible. [unless I want this to become the world’s longest blog post]. so I’m just going to do a couple more recaps than I anticipated. hope that’s ok.

the first day of our trip ..we got up bright + early and were off to south dakota.

our first stop: the corn palace. the world’s only in fact, imagine that. the facade of the building is decorated entirely in corn murals. and the designs change each year.

[I am appropriately wearing a tee shirt that says: IOWA 75% vowels, 100% awesome. thank you, thank you RAYGUN].

our “thing” was to get a pressed-penny [above] + a postcard at each of our stops along the way.

if you’re driving through south dakota [which I’ll venture to guess many of you have not] ..you’ll see signs for WALL DRUG everywhere. through the entire statethe most popular signs: “free ice water” or “5 cent coffee”. but [J] & I’s favorite: “YOLO WALL DRUG”. we knew we had to stop. obviously for the free ice water. along with our pressed-penny + postcard.

then we drove through the badlands, while we listened to ‘fly over states’ by jason aldean. [if you’ve never heard it, listen to it here]. we declared it our trip’s theme song.

say ‘hello’ to the massive bug that flew through our open window, and made itself at home in our cup holder. I almost crashed our car when it started buzzing around. thankfully [J] was on top of his bug-catching game.

our first night we set up our tent at a campsite near mount rushmore.

I now know why you should stay on the trails. these two were fearless, and came so close. after snapping a picture for proof and [J] snapping of one of me.. I ran!

just in time to see the nightly lighting ceremony.

it was amazing.

Looks like you had fun, Chelsea. How was camping? I’m finding putting my holiday photos together quite a long process too! Looking forward to the next pics. 🙂

camping was amazing!! I was so nervous about a whole lot of things ..cooking dinner outside, eating outside, sleeping outside, our air mattress deflating, our tent getting a hole & leaking. but everything was perfect. it rained almost every single night of our trip ..but our tent never leaked. and it was quite peaceful to fall asleep to the sound of rain drops. I’m already looking forward to our next camping trip!!
